CoolSculpting technology employs "cryolipolysis," a process that removes unwanted fat from specific areas of the body by freezing fat cells. This method causes the fat cells to crystallize and break down, leading to a reduction in fat in the targeted regions.
While invasive weight-loss methods like liposuction carry significant risks, CoolSculpting offers a safe, non-invasive alternative that is far more effective.
CoolSculpting is a fat reduction treatment based on the renowned cryolipolysis technique developed by Dr. Dieter Manstein and Dr. R. Rox Anderson at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in the USA.
Researchers discovered that fat cells are exceptionally sensitive to cold temperatures compared to other body tissues. Fat cells begin to crystallize and break down at 4 degrees Celsius, whereas surrounding cells typically only die at 0 degrees. This characteristic allows cryolipolysis to freeze fat cells, effectively dissolving fat without damaging the structure of other cells.
From this promising initiative, the CoolSculpting fat reduction technology was born, becoming the first and only cryolipolysis technique approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2012.
Currently, the CoolSculpting device, which uses the registered trademark of Zeltiq Aervation (USA), is available at Trayce Laser & Skin Care.
How Does CoolSculpting Eliminate Fat?
Scientific studies have shown that the number of fat cells in each person continuously increases from childhood to adolescence. By adulthood, the number of fat cells remains almost stable. High-intensity exercise only reduces their size, but it cannot decrease their number. Furthermore, typical weight loss methods cannot “reduce the population” of fat cells.
However, CoolSculpting can remove excess fat cells by freezing the fat cells, leading to their breakdown and reducing fat in these areas. After 2-3 days of treatment, the dead fat cells are eliminated through the body's natural mechanism (Apoptosis). This technology precisely targets fat cells, without affecting the surrounding skin, muscle, and nerve cells.
Unlike necrosis, fat cells that die through the Apoptosis mechanism will break down into particles, which are then digested and cleared by surrounding phagocytes through the lymphatic system (blood flow). The process of cleaning up and eliminating dead fat cells from the body takes 3-4 months, and you will notice a significant reduction in the thickness of the fat layer.
How is CoolSculpting Performed?
At Trayce Laser & Skin Care, customers undergoing the CoolSculpting fat reduction treatment will go through the following 6 steps:
Step 1: Weigh the customer, analyze the fat area, and take pictures for later evaluation of the results.
Step 2: Clean the area, assess, and mark the target treatment area.
Step 3: The customer lies on a reclined chair.
Step 4: The technician places a gel pad on the treatment area.
Step 5: The technician applies the CoolSculpting handpiece to the designated area.
Step 6: The treatment begins when the customer feels most comfortable and lasts about 60 minutes.
The customer will feel suction and cold in the treatment area, but will gradually get used to it after a few minutes. During the experience, you can watch TV, work on a laptop, read a book, or listen to relaxing music.
How Effective is CoolSculpting?
Zeltiq Aesthetics (USA) has demonstrated through extensive trials that CoolSculpting can reduce the number of fat cells and decrease the thickness of fat layers in the treated area by 20 to 25%.
CoolSculpting effectively targets stubborn fat that is often difficult to eliminate through high-intensity workouts and strict dieting. The technology can be applied to 8 different areas of the body: double chin, lower abdomen, upper abdomen, flanks, bra bulge, hips, inner thighs, and arms.
Who is CoolSculpting Suitable For?
CoolSculpting is suitable for both women and men who want a slimmer physique. This solution is also applicable for those who have a beautiful figure but still struggle with some "stubborn" areas of fat. However, pregnant women, individuals with psoriasis, dermatitis, or blood disorders should not use this treatment.
Compared to older technologies, the fat reduction process usually takes an average of 3 continuous months. With CoolSculpting's cryolipolysis technology, clients only need one session if the fat accumulation is moderate in areas such as the waist, lower abdomen, inner thighs, and arms. For long-standing fat accumulation (hard, lumped fat), up to 3 treatments may be required, but each session can be spaced 2 months apart, significantly saving both cost and time.
